| Jens has contacted me a while ago and has done quite
some work on interfacing the Opel display. He created a program to
interface the Display to a parallel port of a pc.

after you start the program you first press the "Zeit pro readp()"
button to calibrate the program for your computer speed. Next you
press the "Wort draufschreiben" button to send the HALLO
text to the display.
The connections from the LPT port to the display are described as
follows:
| Pin # |
Name |
Description |
| 1 |
SCL |
(Port 888) |
| 2 |
SDA |
|
| 3 |
MRQ |
|
| 10 |
SDA |
(Port 889 Bit6) |
| 12 |
MRQ |
(bit5) |
| 13 |
SCL |
(Bit4) |
The Borland 6 Builder source and .exe file can be found in this
zip: Final3.zip. Make sure to copy the
"ntport.dll" to your c:\windows\system32 directory!!!!!

Unfortunately, not all characters were working when this picture was
taken due to a small problem with the parity bit. This has off course
been corrected.

The first two lights define which symbols are on and off. The above
picture shows what symbol belongs to which bit and byte.
Jens is also working to create a interface for an ATMEL
microcontroller. It can measure speed and maximum speed (and more
to come?):

Current driving speed.

Maximum speed
He also experimented with different color-LEDs behind the display:

Green

Purple

The original color.
